Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
If my doctor has provided a referral to another clinic, can I still come to you?
Is there parking?
What should I bring to my first visit?
- Your BC care card.
- If you have an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim, we require your claim number, and the name of your adjustor if known.
- If you have extended health care insurance coverage, please bring your policy card with all the pertinent details.
- Doctor’s referral note – if you have one and any relevant test results.
- X-ray, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound or other imaging reports.
- Post surgical instructions you’ve been given following surgery.
- Custom orthotics or footwear for foot injuries or foot pain.
- Details regarding your medical history and Intake Form – you can print and complete the form ahead of time here
What can I expect during my first visit?
The first visit is for 40 minutes. You can come in comfortable clothing like yoga pants, shorts, t-shirt or tank top. Patient gowns are also available at the clinic to change prior to the session if needed. One of our highly trained physiotherapy specialists will complete a thorough assessment (checking your joint range of movement, muscle strength, functional abilities, pain patterns and level). A treatment plan will be set based on your goals after the assessment.
How many sessions will I need / How long will I require Physiotherapy treatment?
It depends on the nature of your injury. After a thorough assessment, your physiotherapist will discuss with you the treatment plan and the number of sessions anticipated for recovery based on the scope of your recovery. You will most likely see your therapist once or twice per week to begin with, and as you progress through treatment, your sessions will be more spread out.
How do I pay for treatment?
- We accept cash, cheque, debit card, and credit card. We are happy to discuss payment plan options as well. It is our policy that payment is made at the time of service.
- Your insurance benefits will be determined before your first visit, and you will be informed of what, if any, payment is necessary on your appointment date.
Does insurance cover my treatment?
- In most cases, insurance will cover a good portion, if not all, of your treatment costs.
- See our Insurance page for more information
- Check with your insurer for more specific requirements.
What if you don’t accept my insurance or I don’t have insurance?
For patients who do not have insurance or who have exhausted their benefits, we offer a self-pay rate, due at the time of service
Does the government cover any of the treatments?
- The Medical Services Plan (MSP) will cover a combined total of 10 visits per calendar year for patients that qualify for premium assistance (physiotherapy, non-surgical podiatry, massage therapy, and chiropractic services.)
- For further information on premium assistance, please visit the medical services plan website. We accept premium assistance billing for the regular physiotherapy treatments only.
Does the clinic bill physiotherapy treatment directly to my insurance company?
Yes! In many cases, we can process direct billing to your extended health insurance. However, it’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage details and ensure that physiotherapy treatments are included in your plan.
I have been in a motor vehicle accident. Should I go to physiotherapy?
If you’ve been injured in a motor vehicle accident, it’s important to file a claim with ICBC promptly. While you don’t need a medical referral to start physiotherapy treatment, it’s advisable to see your doctor to assess and document your injury. ICBC may ask for a doctor’s referral note to support your claim. For more information on ICBC claims, visit the ICBC website. https://www.icbc.com/claims/injury/Pages/medical-care-treatment.aspx
Does the clinic accept WorkSafeBC (WCB) patients?
Yes, we do accept patients with WorkSafeBC (WCB) claims. To begin treatment, you’ll need to complete the necessary forms with your employer and either your family doctor or a clinic doctor. Once that’s done, you can schedule an appointment with us to start your treatment. We have a contract with WorkSafeBC to support injured workers and are dedicated to helping you return to work as quickly as possible. Please remember to bring your BC CareCard, as it is required for billing WorkSafeBC. For more information on WorkSafeBC claims, visit their website: https://www.worksafebc.com/en/claims/report-workplace-injury-illness/how-workers-report-workplace-injury-illness
What if I do not have a WSBC claim number?
If you don’t have a WSBC claim number when you come for your first visit, you may need to cover the cost of the treatment yourself. Once you obtain your claim number, let our receptionist know so we can re-bill the visits to WSBC. If your claim is approved, any reimbursement will be processed through our clinic, not directly from WSBC. Please avoid submitting your receipts to any extended medical plans until your WSBC claim has been accepted or denied.
What if I cannot make a scheduled appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide us with at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows us to offer the appointment time to another client. Cancellations or changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, will incur a $30 fee. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call us.
